My most difficult task in undertaking Shelley’s drives is properly thanking everyone who helped in some way. There are hundreds, even thousands, each of whom deserves an individual "thank you." Every person-- whether they dropped a dollar in the jug, or donated hundreds, or gave of their homes for our lodging, or gave of their time in scheduling events for the cause, or who patched a flat tire, or who sent an e-mail of encouragement, and especially each person who inspired us through a friendly word of thanks for helping fight their own disease-- every person deserves a heartfelt thank you.
In this age of uncertainty, it humbles and encourages me to see the purity and goodness in the hearts of individuals. That side of humanity is seldom shown in popular media culture, but deserves all the acclaim that Shelley and I could humbly hope to give.
